Interpretation the process by which people understand or make sense of something. Not everyone will have the same meaning or interpretation of an event. For example if someone was to watch Lyndon B. Johnson's controversial political add at from 1964. Some would say that it is a chilling reminder of nuclear war and some would say, that it is just propaganda to get Johnson elected. This leads us to say were do we get our meanings from?People make meaning through history and way of life is called culture. Culture is something we make in our heads and what is out in the world reality and culture is not easily distinguished.
How do we find the meaning in culture it is representational of the world. When you think of the representational meaning of the word "car" it is different for every person. They will think of a their own car or a car they would like to own.
We all live in a world with, codes that interpret meaning, through the various texts of the mass media and popular culture, this is where we get our shared meaning from. This is why it is important to understand the codes and meanings that are communicated.
